Parliamentary Activities

He was elected parliament member of Nea Demokratia in Athens B! District in the general elections of 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2009.

Minister of Employment and Social Protection from 10.03.2004 until 14.02.2006

He participated in the Constitutional Revisal Committee in 2000

General Introducer in the Constitutional Revisal for the Parliamentary Group of Nea Demokratia in 2006.

Delegate of the Parliamentary Group of Nea Demokratia (September 2007 – October 2009).

Spokesman of  Nea Demokratia (November 2009 – January 2011).

General Introducer in the Constitutional Revisal for the Parliamentary Group of Nea Demokratia in 2008.

President of the Special Committee of the Greek Parliament for the validation of the Lisbon Convention.

Member of the Permanent Economical Affairs Committee, Special Permanent Committee of the Institutional and Diaphaneity and of the Committee of the Parliamentary Statutes.

Responsible for Foreign Affairs of Nea Demokratia (January 2011 - June 2012).

Minister of Defence (June 2012 - June 2013).

Minister of Culture and Sports (June 2013 - June 2014).

Political – Social Activities

For more than 11 years he was the creator, host and editing director of one of the most popular and successful programs of Greek television, the political talk show “PROFILE”, on which he hosted eminent personalities of Greek and International Politics but also celebrities of international show business.

He held administrative posts for several years in many Radio Stations and Television Channels.

Founder Member of the Radio Station “Radio 9,84 FM”

He worked as a political editor and columnist in the newspapers of “Kathimerini”, “Eleftheros Tipos”, “Apogevmatini”, “Vradini”, “To Vima” and for the magazines “Anti” and “Politika Themata”.

War correspondent doing special reports in Bosnia- Herzegovina War and in the Kurdish War.

He interviewed personalities like the Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomeos, the former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, the Prime Ministers of France Alain Juppé and Maurois, the Kurdish leader Otzalan, the former General Secretary of NATO Manfred Verner, the former Belgian Prime Minister Wilfried Martens, the former Mayor of Istanbul and present Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayip Erdogan, the former Prime Minister of Israel Yitzak Samir, Hanan Ashraoui, eminent member of the PLO, but also celebrities like the actress Sharon Stone and others.

Active Member of the Union of the Daily Newspapers Journalists of Athens and of the Athens Bar Association .

He practiced the Legal Profession (Criminal and Corporate Law) on his own Law Office.

He has been elected by the Central Committee of Nea Demokratia as a member of the Executive Committee of the Party.

He was a member of the leadership of ONNED (youth organization of Nea Demokratia) and ranking member of the Governmental Programme Committee (1984- 1985).

He has been honoured with many awards and distinctions- among them: The Greek Television Award (1992), the Botsis Foundation Award, the Greek Christian Letters Association Award and the honorary distinction of the Pan- Hellenic Military Reserve Officers Association.
